Conscious and intentional alignment of the powers of myth
with the goals and visions of Corporate America might make a telling difference
to its ability to compete, survive, thrive, and prevail in the global marketplace.
However, we don’t understand nearly enough about these powers. The language
of communication about them does not exist, and commonly held stories, metaphors
that guide us to truth, are not well known.
What now works in the collective unconscious needs to be
raised into consciousness to realize this alignment. Thus, it is critically
important not just to create an annual conference to gather the many who are
struggling to define qualities of myth as motivational stimuli, but also to
establish a permanent institute with a broad mandate to "foster a sense
of community within the mythic culture, to "provide a common experience," to
connect with an interactive audience, to define sources of cultural inspiration,
to support and develop sources of insight, and collective wisdom, and, in general,
to "enliven the human spirit" in a multicultural world.
The Mythic Imagination Institute is both a nonprofit and
an independent corporation. Its credibility as a clearinghouse for mythic literacy
is based upon an assiduous independence from particular religious, political,
corporate, or governmental bias. Protection of this independence is essential
to its role as an open forum for the exchange of talent, ideas, and diverse
forms of mythic expression. Independent funding is essential to its effectiveness.
